So, I’ve been seeing these crock pot meals on Pinterst for quite some time…I finally decided to try it out for myself! I work 9-6 and commute around 30 minutes to and from work Monday through Friday every week, that doesn’t leave a lot of time for other things. Especially when you come home, decide what to cook, go to the grocery store, cook, and eat…then, it’s pretty much time for bed. Doesn’t leave a lot of “together” time for the boyfriend either.
With finally deciding to take a chance and do the meals, I was happy to have finally have found a pin that gave way to some amazing recipes…each one very different from the other. Which, is great for a picky eater like my man! This is the link to the list of meals that I found at MommysFabulousFinds.
I made a list of all the things I needed to buy before heading to the grocery store…BIG time saver! Below are pictures of the groceries purchased and each bag after I made it, along with the instructions written on the outside.
Because recipes are just recipes unless someone tells you that they’re good and what they put with them…I decided I would review each and every one of them. Not just to share, but for my own memory’s sake. So, here goes!
Apple BBQ Pork Tenderloin
This meal was great. It says to put on rice or pasta, but my boyfriend had different plans…So we made a pasta meal side that was Garlic Shells. I think the recipe was good, but downfall leading to Mike and I “needing a little something extra” with it could be fixed by using a different type of BBQ. We used the A&W rootbeer BBQ from Bass Pro for it. Sweet Baby Ray’s next time! EDIT: Even better warmed up…try it on buns! Yum yum!
Honey Bourbon Chicken
This meal is super duper sweet, but I guess it’s suppose to be. We were going to eat it on hamburger buns, but of course they had gone bad already from the last time we had burgers lol. So, we just had it on bread. It was still good, of course, but maybe normal Honey next time. I had Blackberry Twist honey from a local grower that I had picked up a farmer’s market that I just used because it was there. More to experiment with!
Savory Pepper Steak
BEST MEAL YET! Delicious! I love how with every meal, the meat has practically fallen apart! Save your knives, not necessary! With this meal we paired it with Mashed Potatoes and crescent rolls because of all the goodies that were in with the steak. Oh and one thing to finally call out…I did all my non-meat shopping at Walmart and for some reason there were no cans that said Italian Style tomatoes…so, I bought diced tomatoes that were seasoned with Oregano, garlic, and something else….I didn’t realize that Italian style was a cut of tomato. I’m not sure if it made the meal better or if it would have been just as good otherwise.
So, Mike now says that this meal was the BEST ONE YET! lol We fed ourselves and two of our friends this meal the other night. We paired it with more mashed potatoes and it was delicious. I wouldn’t change a thing about this recipe! Completely delicious!
Sausage and Peppers
Took this over to a friends’ house so that we wouldn’t have to order pizza the other night. We had it with white rice. The sausage gets super tender with the crock pot cooking. Another yummy meal and unique as well, since I rarely get to eat sausage for any meal other than breakfast. Yum!
Pineapple chicken burritos
This meal is so much better without the burritos involved, or maybe it was just the fact that I had folded them badly. I couldn’t really tell if the Green Chile Enchilada sauce even added any kind of taste to the meal. The shredded chicken and all the goodness is great tasting by itself. SO MUCH LUNCH FOR WORK!
Teriyaki Pork Chops
We ate this quickly and only added a little bit of brown rice with it. The pork chop starts to dry out once you get it out of the crock pot, so add the juice on top. It was sweet, but not too sweet and delicious. I keep loving how all of the meat just falls apart.
Sweet and Sour Meatballs
Probably my least favorite meal to date. SOOOOOO many meatballs. I like BBQ meatballs so much better….I’d eat the hell of them, but we had sooooo many left overs because we weren’t big fans. Best part was the pineapple, sadly.
Officially my least favorite meal of them all…Booooo
Southwest Chicken Chili
Delicious! Makes enough to feed a good couple people, so invite people over to share this meal. I didn’t have a lot of hope for it, but it really surprised me! Paired it with just saltine crackers.
